Boo!

Surprise! It's a blog post! Wow, we have not been keeping up with Sommer House and some exciting things are happening around here. It is time to start posting again. I just looked back through our old entries and it was pretty cool to see a chronicle of the past few years, so, back to it. What's exciting and new that's happening you ask? Well some of what's to come on the blog will include. . . we are harvesting loads from our garden and cooking away, fall has arrived and it makes the days so much more lovely, we're planning to do some work on the basement - finishing it into additional living space and a guest room. . . because a little baby brother or sister for Ivy is on the way!

Fun over the holidays

Hope everyone had a wonderful time over the holidays, we did! Spending time with the family in Houston was the highlight for us, here are a few videos from our visit at my parents' house. I can't believe it's all over, and here we are in 2011, I'm excited to see what's in store for us this year. Happy new year!

Fence & Unfinished Curbside

We have been working on the 'hellstrip' for what seems like forever. That area between the street and the sidewalk, owned by the city, but our mudpit to walk through all winter. We're trying to fill with rocks and plants, to give it a natural pathway feel, requiring minimal care, along with a bed for our squash. We've hired help to dig the weeds and dirt, both saying it was the hardest dirt they've ever dealt with. Yikes.

You can see our new fence in these photos, though I want to post something more beautiful once it's all done, since I don't think you can tell how nice it is here. The fence turned out very nice, it is well built, keeps Jake in the yard, makes the house feel secure, and gives the yard a cozy feeling from sitting on the front porch. Notice how our tomato plants are huge now! We've got the most delicious heirlooms this year!

Straight chillin'

We created this nice spot for Ivy to hang out in the house, since she loves looking out the windows so much while Nick has been working so hard on the curbside landscaping. Our table is moved to the other side of the room for the time being, but will not stay there, as it is rather nice to look out the windows while eating dinner too : ) The other day I went to change the laundry to the dryer and came back to find her up atop this little suitcase playing with her toothbrush. She's pretty steady on her feet, but yikes, imagine a spill with that toothbrush jabbing her in the back of the throat. We've got to watch it!

A Serious Multi-tasker

About a month ago, Ivy started up with this. Some of her favorites things to carry around this way include: cloth green bean, cloth tomato, toothbrush, baby hairbrush, A&D ointment, her socks & shoes, clothes.

Should I . . .

Should I keep track of how many times this beautiful girl is falling down?
